Archival work will be pursued within collections held at the Libraries and Museums within St. Catharine to examine documents related to the shipyard and adjacent businesses. Fire insurance records and city planning records, early photographs and visual art, will aid in reconstructing both conceived and perceived landscapes. Through labour records, we will reconstruct the workforce engaged in the maritime trades. Additional archival work will be undertaken at the National Archives of Canada (Ottawa), in order to extrapolate shipping movements. The Welland Canal Registers, in particular, will enable us to identify transport zones through geo-visualizing ships, their movements over time, and the nature of their cargoes.
